PDEA arrests target drug dealer in La Union - Sun.Star

AGOO, La Union -- Anti-narcotics agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) arrested Monday a drug dealer included in the priority target list of both PDEA and the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Barangay Santa. Ana, Agoo.

The suspect, Michael Lagasca, also known as Kenneth Lagasca, an alleged member of the notorious PEN Group of drug pushers operating in La Union and as far as Pangasinan, was arrested in a buy-bust operation.

Lagasca was arrested after three months of continuous surveillance and monitoring by PDEA and the police.

A report from Bismark Bengwayan, PDEA Region 1 information officer, stated that initial intelligence reports showed Lagasca started his illicit activities from simple street pushing to supplying until he took over the Calica drug group which was operating as far as Pangasinan.

"This is a big blow to the drug group's activities," said newly installed PDEA regional director Rogelio Cabrera.

"We are currently working out a strategy in arresting the remaining members and totally stop their spread of crime," he said.

Three plastic sachets of methamphetamine hydrochloride, otherwise known as shabu, including a cellular phone he was using in his illegal drug transaction and the drug buy-bust money, were seized from the suspect.

Lagasca is now facing cases for violation of Sections 5 and 11 of Article II of the Republic Act 9165 or selling and possession of illegal drugs. (PNA)
