Pontiac man arrested in theft of drugs, $10000 in cash - Detroit Free Press

Sheriffs deputies in Pontiac seized more than $200,000 worth of cocaine and more than $10,000 in cash while investigating a home break-in, according to the Oakland County Sheriffs Department.

Responding to a report of a robbery in progress Monday, the deputies found a gold van packed with cash and drugs in front of a home on Crawford Street, according to a release issued today about the bust. They arrested the 34-year-old driver from Pontiac.

It was a combination of heads-up police work and having the right tools, Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in the release, crediting deputies and a department K9 for the find.

When they got to the home, they found Mark Hollis Jr., 34, in the drivers seat, according to investigators. The smell of marijuana was wafting from the van, with rolling papers and cash visible on the center console.

The driver told deputies he had marijuana in the van. A search revealed $10,427 in cash and 12 grams of marijuana in the center console. A K9 search of the van also turned up 421 grams, or a half-kilo, of cocaine, with a street value of more than $200,000.

Hollis was arraigned Wednesday in 50th District Court in Pontiac on a 20-year felony charge of delivery/manufacture of more than 50 grams of cocaine and possession of marijuana, a 1-year misdemeanor.

Judge Michael C. Martinez set a $25,000 personal bond and Hollis is scheduled to be in court again Oct. 16.
