Conn. woman charged with stabbing man to death - San Francisco Chronicle

HAMDEN, Conn. (AP) — Police say a Connecticut woman has been charged with stabbing a man to death, and the case is being investigated as domestic violence.

Hamden police received a report of a stabbing Saturday afternoon and discovered a wounded 44-year-old Lavern Brown. He was taken to a hospital and underwent emergency surgery, but he died shortly afterward.

Officers were told that a woman who lived with Brown had fled the scene, and they found her nearby.

The woman, 51-year-old Rita Renee Johnson, has been charged with murder in Brown's death. She is being held at police headquarters on $500,000 bond and couldn't immediately be reached for comment.

She is scheduled to appear in court in Meriden on Monday.

Police say Brown and Johnson had possibly been fighting.
