THREE Tanzanians were arrested for having swallowed heroin pellets. By Tuesday they had discharged 204 pellets worth USD 204,000. Head of the Anti Drugs Unit, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP), Godfrey Nzowa, said in the city that two suspects were arrested while heading to board a Nairobi bound flight at Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) on Friday last week.
"Another suspect, Tabia Omary Kitwiku aged 40 was apprehended on Monday evening while heading to board an Addis Ababa bound flight at JNIA," he said.Mr Nzowa named the suspects as Khamis Said Bakari, 38, a Tanzanian with passport number AB 441799 who lives in Nampula Province in Mozambique and Judith Michael Kusekwa, 28, with passport number AB 293385, a businesswoman living in Kinondoni municipality in Dar es Salaam.
"Preliminary investigation shows that two of the suspects who were to board the same plane were going to Hong Kong and China via Nairobi," said Mr Nzowa.He said the other suspect, Tabia Omary Kitwiku with passport number AB 527099 who is a businesswoman at Tandale was heading to Hong Kong via Addis Ababa in Ethiopia.
"Tabia has so far discharged 64 heroin pellets while Judith has discharged 65 heroin pellets and the only male suspect, Khamis has discharged 75 heroin pellets," he said.The suspects face life imprisonment or fine of three times of value of the seized drugs according to the Drugs and Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Drugs Act 16.
Mr Nzowa said the recent arrest of the suspected drug dealers brings a number to 35 incidents since January this year.A number of women arrested with narcotics drugs has soared as a total of 30 women were apprehended between 2010 and 2012.
