SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A man who was the victim of a home invasion last week was arrested Thursday night, after Springfield narcotics detectives allegedly found more than 1,000 bags of heroin inside his home.
Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that 23 year-old Jesus Figueroa was arrested in the raid on his Pine Point home Thursday night. Delaney says that the arrest was significant, because Figueroa is considered to be a major heroin dealer in the region.
According to Delaney, after 6:00 P.M., detectives from Springfield and the Hampden County Narcotics Task Force raided Figueroa's home at 62 Peer Street. Inside, they found more than 1,000 packets of heroin packaged for sale, along with packaging material and a scale.
The arrest followed a two month-long investigation, during which time Figueroa had reported to police that he had been the victim of a home invasion.
Twin brothers Roberto and Eriberto Villafane were arrested for allegedly breaking into Figueroa's home on January 24. That night, Delaney says that Figueroa had called police from a neighbor's house, saying that two masked, armed men broke into his house and tried to rob him.
The Villafane brothers face charges including armed home invasion, assault, and threat to murder.
Figueroa is being charged with three counts of distribution of heroin, and a single count of possession of a class A substance with intent to distribute.
Delaney says that the arrest serves as a reminder that the majority of home invasions are connected in some way with drugs.
