Two arrested in post office drug bust - KSFY

Two women are behind bars after picking up a package that containing synthetic drugs at the downtown Sioux Fall post office.

Charity Cook, 28, and Brandy Gardner, 33, were caught picking up the package Thursday afternoon at approximately 3:00 pm.

Officer Sam Clemens said the Sioux Falls Drug Task Force received information from postal inspector, after a drug sniffing dog alerted them to the package. Clemens said inside the package they found a white powdery substance, and a PCP field kit later confirmed the substance to be synthetic marijuana.

Drug Task Force members waited for someone to claim the package in order to make an arrest. Cook and Gardner arrived to the post office with a blue slip to pick up the package, which was only addressed to Cook. However, she gave the blue slip to Gardner who signed and accepted the package.

The two were then arrested. During a search detectives found in Cook's purse 339.9 grams of synthetic marijuana. In the women's vehicle police found a pip with some meth residue on it. The package the women picked had two bags containing 44 grams of synthetic marijuana.

The detectives also served a search warrant at Cook's home in the 900-block of South 10th Avenue in Sioux Falls. Officer Clemens said both Cook and Gardner live in the home.

During the search police found a small amount of meth, and some other paraphernalia with residue on it. $3,900 in cash was also seized.

Cook and Gardner are both charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of a certain substance for purposes of intoxication.
